Personal Testimony and Sense of Call

Dr. Hector Roberto Mardy was born and raised in Jacmel, Haiti. His father was a farmer, and, as a young man, he would often accompany him to the field, tend to the gardens, and care for the livestock. He came to Christ at the age of 16. After graduating from High school in his hometown of Jacmel, he traveled to California to study Agriculture at Kings River State College, where he interned in Agriculture.

His plan was always to return to his hometown in Haiti upon graduation, but unfortunately, the country was in turmoil and politically unstable. Under the advisement of his family, Dr. Hector Roberto Mardy was asked to stay in Miami, Florida until things calmed down. While there, he met pastor Dony St. Germain from El Shaddai Ministry Int’l (ESMI); he introduced him to the reformed faith, and he felt that God called him to a higher task. The sense of God’s calling on his life strengthened with each passing year. Yet he knew there was more. He knew that God wanted him to work for Him, so he committed himself to full-time work for the Lord. He has always wanted to be involved in the local church’s ministry and share his faith in Christ with others.

Our Founder

Over the years, since working with El Shaddai Ministries in Miami, Florida, his longing to be transformed and to see others transformed by the grace of Christ has grown tremendously. Dr. Hector Roberto Mardy senses a call to church planting and shepherding others more profoundly and deeper into the gospel of Christ. The ministry of El Shaddai has helped him put learning theories and innovative ideas to the test through practical and experiential application. With each passing day, he is growing in Christ. He is a winner in love, in patience, all for the glory of Christ. Dr. Hector Roberto Mardy is acutely aware that he must be prepared for how people today think, learn, and grow in modern culture to develop a realistic approach to ministry that consistently applies the biblical worldview to every aspect of life. After attending Knox Theological Seminary, then Jacksonville Theological Seminary, he received approval as a church planter in September of 1999 and was ordained in the PCA as a Teaching Elder on October 21, 2001. Then, he moved to Chicago to the Haitian community to plant New Hope Haitian Church in 2002 in the Rogers Park area, using door-to-door evangelism and evangelistic Bible studies. His ministries involve evangelization, outreach, leadership training, radio ministry, counseling, discipleship, and preaching. He also served as a speaker for Haitian youth retreats and various interchurch gatherings in the Haitian community. His wife, Josephine, a nurse, helped with childcare ministry and got involved in other women-focused activities within the community.

The History

After Chicago, Dr. Hector Roberto Mardy moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 2010. This was also around the time of the massive earthquake in Haiti, which left the country and multiple communities demolished. This was the catalyst that propelled Dr. Hector Roberto Mardy to expand his ministry internationally, first, by starting a new church plant which would ultimately be the catalyst for a multitude of other projects in the region. Since then, Dr. Hector Roberto Mardy has dedicated his life to improving and revitalizing the impoverished communities in his hometown in Haiti through the establishment of churches, semi-annual food and clothing drives, the construction of wells for access to clean water, and most recently, the establishment of a school to help educate the youth and provide jobs to the people in the community. He is a husband and a father and has been, over the years, a leader, role model, and activist in his community.
